The department offers a programme leading to the Ph.D. in electrical engineering. The programme aims to develop a dynamic researcher enabling them to adapt to the ever changing needs in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Research activity spans a broad spectrum of Electrical and Electronics Engineering subjects, which include (but are not limited to):
As the world transitions towards sustainable electric mobility, there is a growing demand for professionals skilled in battery technology, efficient motors, charging systems, and vehicle integration. The M. Tech in Electric Vehicle Technology is a 72-credit, two-year programme designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in key areas, including battery systems, battery management, motors and drives, charging infrastructure, software-defined vehicles, and digital twinning. This multidisciplinary curriculum bridges electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science, emphasizing both industry-driven training and cutting-edge research. Modules of emerging technologies like digital twinning and software-defined vehicles ensure graduates are prepared for future advancements in the EV sector.
Through collaborations with industry partners, students gain hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges. With a focus on sustainable mobility and green energy, the programme empowers graduates to excel in the EV ecosystem, contributing to technological innovations and shaping the future of transportation.
As one of the oldest engineering disciplines, Electrical and Electronics Engineering encompasses diverse areas to address today’s engineering needs. It deals with the generation, distribution and application of electricity, embedded system, automation and control, and emerging areas like VLSI, Digital Signal Processing, Renewable Energy Systems, and E-Mobility/Electric vehicle technology.Owing to the diversity of the discipline, the job opportunities associated with it are manifold, ranging
from design and manufacture of electronic equipment to automation and control. To facilitate the students’ learning we conduct sessions and seminars on problem solving, creative thinking, open-ended experiments, and live projects. Students are exposed to live projects and internships in the industry from 3rd Semester till their final semester. Additionally they are encouraged to publish papers and presentations in Conferences.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology is transforming the future of transportation, driven by the global shift towards reducing carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. This dynamic field covers a wide array of specializations, including electric powertrain design, battery technology, charging infrastructure, and advanced control systems. As the adoption of EVs accelerates worldwide, there is a growing demand for skilled engineers who can innovate and lead advancements in sustainable transportation technologies.
The global electric vehicle market, valued at USD 370 billion in 2021, is projected to reach USD 1,300 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.19%. India has become a key player in this sector, driven by government incentives, favorable policies, and rising environmental consciousness. Major industry contributors include automotive manufacturers like Tesla, Tata Motors, and Hyundai, alongside battery producers such as Exide and Amara Raja, and charging infrastructure providers like Ather Energy and Tata Power. This robust ecosystem is also supported by a thriving startup culture focusing on energy storage, battery management, and smart charging solutions.
In response to the growing need for specialized professionals, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has prepared this Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) program in Electric Vehicle Technology. Building on the Department’s established Master’s program in Power Systems (Electric Mobility), this PGDP will emphasize EV powertrain design, battery technology, and smart grid-integrated charging infrastructure. Developed in collaboration with Decibels Lab, this program offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, equipping students with the expertise needed to excel in the rapidly expanding EV industry. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, preparing graduates for impactful careers in the electric mobility space.
