Bachelor of Arts (Music-Western Classical, Psychology/Honours) - Overview

 

Music is an artform which enables expression throughout all areas of the experiences psychology scientifically pursues. The Music and Psychology programme provides an integrated understanding of both disciplines. The programme aims to develop musical, artistic and psychological skills in practical ways to build experience 

grounded in scientific backing with familiarity in emerging technologies. Students who have secured 75% marks and above in the first six semesters are eligible to qualify for a 4-year degree (Honours / Honours with Research) in Psychology, or may be eligible to pursue an Honours degree in Music.

What you will learn?

Throughout the course, students will develop a deep and comprehensive understanding of their chosen musical specialisation: either voice or piano.
Students will learn to harness their creative abilities to transform their ideas into compelling performances, media productions or visual artworks.
Students will acquire the skills to critically analyse and assess different artworks to gain a deep understanding of the creative process.
Students will gain experience working in teams, learning how to collaborate effectively with professionals from diverse artistic backgrounds, fostering a spirit of innovation and adaptability.
Students will gain valuable insights into the music and creative media industry, including its history, current trends, and business practices. Students will explore how music and creative media can transcend borders and cultures, promoting cross-cultural understanding and addressing global issues.

Career Prospectus

Graduates can pursue a career as a performer, musicologist, theorist, composer, event manager or conductor of music.
A graduate has the opportunity to work as educators in schools, colleges, community centers and private institutions teaching music and psychology 
With a background in psychology the students can work as an assistant psychologist or in areas such as nursing, social work, mental health work, services for individuals with disabilities, mentoring young offenders and work in social services is vital.
Graduates of music and psychology can either work for a performing arts company or practice as a professional.
