Our democracy rests on the media and how it documents the lived experiences of our times and we are dedicated to this mission by educating the next generation of  media professionals towards excelling in an increasingly complex 21st century. With this vision the courses offered in the department are an interdisciplinary nature and media programme that systematically prepares students for existing and emerging opportunities in creative entrepreneurship and research in media, taught by the best in academia and working professionals. And visiting industry professionals also ensure that students receive hands-on training and mentoring to develop the skills needed to succeed in their chosen field of specialization and Numerous academic activities and events including workshops and seminars provide extensive learning experience to the students and nurture the desire for responsible and creative expressions in the student community. The department regularly organizes Faculty Development Programmes and works for upskilling the researchers and faculties in the domain. Students also edit the biannual campus magazine – Karwaan and organize international conferences and seminars like Rethinking Regional Media (3RM) annually.

The Department also fosters the creative and entrepreneurial spirit in students through student-initiated clubs and forums like the INIKAAS:  Press club; Spectrum – Gender Forum, Kino Society – Film Club, News & Chuckles – Podcast Club, Hiraeth – Photography club; Media Entrepreneurship Cell -  have enabled them to make informed choice about specialization and career in accordance with one’s individual passion and ability.
