Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy and Taxation/Honours/Honours with Research) - Overview

 

There has been growing demand for accounting and tax professionals who are proficient and have expertise on Accounting skills, Regulatory aspects, Reporting framework, Taxation of different entities, Budget preparation, Forecasting cash flows and Analysis of Complex Business Transactions. The programme aims to develop industry-ready Accounting and Tax professionals by honing skills in in-demand tools and techniques and standard accounting practices. The programme provides a solid theoretical foundation for critical components like Financial Reporting, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Customs Procedure, Transfer Pricing Methods, and Cross-Border Tax Compliance issues. The curriculum is designed to inculcate practical skills with a strong theoretical foundation to handle compliance issues with regulatory aspects.
During the programme, students will have the option to undergo training for the EA (Enrolled Agent) Certification Examination conducted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the revenue authority of the United States. They will also have the option to pursue the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) course alongside their undergraduate studies. These optional professional certifications will enhance students’ career prospects and provide exposure to global taxation and auditing practices. The training for these certifications will be offered at an additional cost.
The Programme is designed in line with the requirements of the National Education Policy (NEP) spanning across eight semesters comprising of Major courses, Minor courses, Skill Enhancement Courses and Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses, Internships and Project work and Value-Added Courses. Students who complete three years (six semesters) with the necessary credits may exit and be conferred the B.Com. (Accountancy and Taxation) degree. Those who complete two years (four semesters) with the required credits and opt to exit will receive a UG Diploma in Accountancy and Taxation. Upon completion of one year (two semesters) with the prescribed credits, students may choose to exit the programme and will be awarded a Certificate. 

BCom(Accountancy and Taxation Honours)

The fourth year is designed as a transformative phase that equips students with advanced and specialized knowledge in Accountancy and Taxation. This stage emphasizes higher-order analytical skills, professional competence, and research orientation.
In the final year students will undertake a Capstone Project, enabling them to apply theoretical insights to real-world business and taxation challenges. In addition, students will complete an extended internship, gaining valuable industry exposure and practical experience alongside their advanced coursework.
Students who complete all eight semesters, fulfilling the minimum credit requirements as prescribed under the NEP guidelines, will be awarded the prestigious B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) – Honours / Honours with Research degree, reflecting academic excellence and professional readiness.

BCom (Honours with Research) 
Students who secure 75% marks and above in the first six semesters and demonstrate a keen interest in academic inquiry may opt for the Research Stream in the fourth year. During the fourth year, they will be exposed to both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, along with the use of analytical tools and techniques for data analysis, thereby strengthening their research competence, critical thinking, and evidence-based decision-making skills. Under this stream, students will undertake a Research Project/Dissertation in the accountancy/taxation/audit domain guided by an experienced faculty member of the University.  Students who successfully complete 160 credits, including 12 credits earned through the Research Project/Dissertation, will be awarded the distinguished B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) – Honours with Research degree.
